The Arizona Cardinals carry the longest lineage in professional football, tracing their roots to a Chicago neighborhood club organized in 1898. The franchise played in Chicago through 1959, spent 1960 through 1987 in St. Louis, and arrived in the Phoenix area in 1988, playing as the Phoenix Cardinals before adopting the Arizona name in 1994. The Cardinals compete in the NFC West against the San Francisco 49ers, Seattle Seahawks and Los Angeles Rams, and they play home games at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, a retractable-roof building best known for a natural grass field that rolls outside to get sunlight between games.
