Colorado Rockies play in the NL West.
Colorado Rockies overview
The Colorado Rockies play in the National League West at Coors Field in Denver, the highest-elevation ballpark in the majors at about 5,200 feet above sea level. That thin air shapes nearly everything about Rockies baseball, from how far the ball travels to how pitches break, and it makes Coors Field the most important single park factor in MLB betting. Colorado has reached the World Series once, in 2007, after one of the hottest late-season runs in history. Bettors evaluating the Rockies need to think in two modes: one for the run-heavy environment in Denver, and another for road games, where the club's hitters often struggle to replicate their home production.
Betting insights
Coors Field's altitude reduces air resistance, so fly balls carry farther and breaking balls lose movement. To compensate, the park has an enormous outfield, which leads to a lot of singles, doubles and triples as well as home runs. Since 2002, game balls have been stored in a humidor, which reduced but did not eliminate the effect. Sportsbooks post Coors totals well above league average, so the question is whether the number is high enough. Wind, temperature and the starters' ability to keep the ball on the ground all matter. Bettors also discuss a Coors hangover, where Rockies hitters adjust to the different pitch movement on the road.
