Boston Red Sox play in the AL East.

Boston Red Sox overview

The Boston Red Sox play in the American League East at Fenway Park, the oldest ballpark in the major leagues. Few teams carry Boston's combination of history, national following and media attention, and few home parks influence the game as directly as Fenway, where the 37-foot Green Monster in left field turns fly balls into doubles and routine outs into adventures. The Red Sox have won nine World Series titles, four of them since 2004. Their rivalry with the New York Yankees remains one of the most famous in American sports, and series between the two clubs reliably draw some of the heaviest betting volume of the regular season.

Betting insights

Fenway rewards hitters who drive the ball to left field, but it is not a straightforward home run park. The Monster cuts down homers that would leave other parks while inflating doubles, and the deep right-center field area helps pitchers. Weather matters a great deal: cold April and May nights, wind off the water and summer humidity can all change how the park plays. Because the Red Sox have one of the largest national followings, prices on Boston can be shaded by public money, particularly in Yankees series and on national broadcasts. Bettors who prefer the other side of popular teams may find more value in those spots than in random midweek series.
