How to bet on boxing
Boxing bets pick the winner, how long the fight lasts, or how it ends, and a draw changes how winner bets settle.
Key points
- Over 9.5 rounds wins once the fight passes 1 minute 30 seconds of round 10 (with 3-minute rounds).
- Big favorites are common: -1000 risks $1,000 to win $100.
- Whether a draw refunds a moneyline bet or loses it depends on the book's market: two-way or three-way.

- Moneyline: pick the winner. Boxing's most common bet.
- Round total: over or under a number of rounds, such as 9.5.
- Method of victory: knockout, technical knockout or disqualification (usually grouped together), decision, or draw, often by fighter.
- Round betting: the exact round a fighter wins in, at long prices.
What a draw does to your bet
Draws are rare but real, and books handle them in two ways. Check which kind of market you're betting before you place it.
| Market | Outcomes | If it's a draw |
|---|---|---|
| Two-way moneyline | Fighter A or fighter B | Usually refunded (a push) |
| Three-way moneyline | Fighter A, fighter B or draw | Loses: the draw was its own outcome |
On our boxing picks page, a fight that ends in a draw or a no contest gets no result and doesn't count in the record.
Round totals
A round total of 9.5 means halfway through round 10. With 3-minute rounds, that's 1 minute 30 seconds into the round.
Over 9.5 rounds
- Stopped in round 9
- Under wins
- Stopped at 1:10 of round 10
- Under wins
- Stopped at 2:05 of round 10
- Over wins
- Goes the full 12 rounds
- Over wins
A 12-round fight that goes the distance wins the over on any total below 12. A technical decision after an early stoppage settles round totals on the round it ended, and counts as a decision for method bets.
Fights scheduled for fewer rounds, and fights with 2-minute rounds, have different halfway points. Check the scheduled rounds before betting a round total.
What's different about boxing
- One event, not a season: each fight is priced on its own, often weeks in advance.
- The weigh-in, the day before, can move prices if a fighter misses weight.
- Late opponent changes happen, and books usually void bets on the original fight.
- Big favorites are common. At -1000 one loss erases the profit from ten wins, so long-shot underdogs and props carry most of the interest.

Frequently asked questions
What happens to a boxing bet if the fight is a draw?
On a two-way moneyline the bet is usually refunded. On a three-way moneyline, where the draw is its own outcome, a bet on either fighter loses.
What does over 9.5 rounds mean?
The fight has to pass the halfway point of round 10, 1 minute 30 seconds in with 3-minute rounds. A fight that goes the full scheduled distance always wins the over.
What is method of victory betting?
A bet on how the fight ends: knockout, technical knockout or disqualification (usually one outcome), decision, or draw, often combined with which fighter wins.
What if a fighter is replaced?
Books usually void bets on the original fight. Check the book's rules for that event.
